About us

Research in Politics and International relations is theoretically driven and impactful. We produce innovative interdisciplinary research, which holds at its core  the principles of social inclusion, individual rights and human dignity

Our work is organised around three key research themes:

  • Applied Political Theory: comprises research on applied theory, tackling issues of marginalisation and social exclusion, political activism, art and politics, racism, and moral questions related to ethics. The work is connected to our Activism Research Network (ARN), and to a key impactful partnership as part of the Tate Exchange Programme, at the Tate Modern Gallery, London.
  • Security Studies:  brings together research in a wide range of security focused issues, including digital security, terrorism, and the politics and international relations of outer space.  Work in this area also addresses the possibilities for peace in post-conflict societies, and themes around boarders – specifically migration.
  • Constitutional and Territorial Politics: comprises research on devolution, federalism, power sharing and secession movements, in the UK, Constitutional Europe (specifically Spain), Asian (Myanmar) and Africa. Research forms the basis of the impactful work which has focused on formulating Framework Principles for peace negotiations and building capacity to establish and promote federal governance.

We have an extensive community of post-graduate students, working on topics related to our research themes. Our post-graduate students work closely with academic staff in order to create high quality research outputs.
