This project evaluated Youth Sports Trust’s Skills2Play/Sport Programme which aimed to increase the physical literacy of primary school children and enhance teachers’ competence and confidence in delivery.
Skills2Play and Skills2PlaySport are complementary initiatives designed to support the 2014 Primary School Literacy Framework developed by the Youth Sport Trust. Skills2Play is targeted at Key Stage 1 and focuses on generic skill development through a range of activities that focus on stability, object control and locomotion. Contracted in 2013, spear evaluated the pilot Skills2Play/Sport programme followed by successive evaluations of the nationally rolled out programme in 2014/15 and 2015/16.

- 87% of KS1 deliverers say Skills2Play has helped children achieve 60 active minutes a day
- Participants at school visits exhibited increased confidence, motivation, knowledge and understanding.
- Young leadership opportunities enhance leadership skills and participant engagement.
