In 2012-13 spear was commissioned by the Greater London Authority and London Councils to conduct a supra-evaluation of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
This higher-level supra-evaluation used robust evidence to articulate clearly, concisely and digestibly the holistic legacy of the 2012 Olympic Games on life in London. The project synthesised a comprehensive range of evidence to address the question “What legacy did the 2012 Games leave for London?” Focus was placed on the impact of Greater London Authority and local authority Games-related and legacy investments on policy for London, on places in London and, ultimately, the people of London.
Key Findings
- 45% of Londoners were positive about the benefits the games brought to the city, were engaged in the Games and felt high levels of personal positive impacts.
- The development of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, together with transport requirements of the Games, led to marked investment in transport infrastructure including public transport and enhanced provision for walking and cycling.
