Canterbury Festival – Beautiful Noise Evaluation

“A Celebration of Community Music-Making”

The SDHRC has partnered with Canterbury Festival to evaluate its 2022 ‘Beautiful Noise Community Music Day’ taking place at venues across the city. Data will be collected via an in-person digital questionnaire with adults who are voluntary performers participating in the event. The SDHRC is supporting festival organisers to better understand the event’s impact on widening audiences, health and wellbeing, place-making and community connection, and accessibility and inclusion. We intend to create a report for festival organisers and publish the findings in academic journals. We also hope to synergise findings across a parallel project with Broadstairs Folk Week to offer a bigger picture of festival engagement. This research will improve arts and culture engagement opportunities in participants’ local communities.
