A conversation with Emeritus Professor John Sullivan for writers, scholars and new and not so new researchers. 

After a very brief introduction to the background to and nature of his chapter ‘Research, Writing and a Personal Academic Ethos’ from John, this session is an opportunity for colleagues to engage with/respond to/raise questions and comments about the chapter, which should be read in advance.      

To participate in this session a prereading is required which you can access when you book.

Biography

John Sullivan is Emeritus Professor of Christian Education, Liverpool Hope University, UK.  Earlier in his career he taught in secondary schools as classroom teacher, Head of Year, Head of Department, Deputy Head, Vice Principal of a Sixth Form College and as Headteacher.  He also served for four years as Head of Professional Development and also as Chief Education Inspector in a London Borough. 

In his talk John draws upon his experience of having completed two research degrees, as supervisor for many doctoral students and as External Examiner for many PhD and EdD theses (in the UK, Australia, Ireland and Canada).  He has been Director of Research for a department with 40+ doctoral students, provided many workshops for doctoral training programmes at several universities and at academic conferences, and he has served as referee for several academic journals and for many different academic publishers.  He is author and editor of nine books in the field of Christian education – the two most recent being The Christian Academic in Higher Education: The Consecration of Learning, Palgrave Macmillan, 2018; and Lights for the Path, Dublin: Veritas, 2022 – together with more than 100 other chapters and articles and over a 100 book reviews.  He works at the interface between theology and education.
