{"id":610,"date":"2013-09-15T14:07:58","date_gmt":"2013-09-15T13:07:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.canterbury.ac.uk\/centre-for-sport-physical-education-and-activity-research\/?p=610"},"modified":"2026-01-27T11:19:09","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T11:19:09","slug":"national-school-sports-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/research.canterbury.ac.uk\/centre-for-sport-physical-education-and-activity-research\/national-school-sports-week\/","title":{"rendered":"National School Sports Week"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In 2013&nbsp;<em>spear<\/em>&nbsp;reported on the findings of an evaluation of the Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week (NSSW) in England and Wales, having reported previously on the Lloyds TSB NSSW in England, Wales and the Bank of Scotland in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These annual events are designed to motivate pupils to do more sport by celebrating and profiling PE achievements in schools, and provide a platform from which to launch new school based initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key Findings<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Since NSSW started in 2009, over 9.5 million young people and over 22,000 schools have participated across the UK<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Teachers continue to rate the impact of NSSW positively, with over 80% saying the week had enhanced pupils\u2019 sports participation, behaviour and learning<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Over 80% of teachers felt NSSW has a year-round positive impact on pupil engagement in PE, and over 70% felt it has a year-round impact on pupils\u2019 extra-curricular sport provision and participation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Over half of the teachers surveyed felt NSSW facilitates schools\u2019 partnerships with community clubs and pupils\u2019 participation in sports clubs outside of school<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increased participation in extra-curricular and community sport clubs suggests that NSSW was an effective mechanism for developing sport pathways for pupils within and beyond school<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The top-ranked elements of NSSW in 2013 were \u2018playing for fun\u2019 and \u2018trying new sports\u2019.
