{"id":582,"date":"2016-08-25T14:04:40","date_gmt":"2016-08-25T13:04:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.canterbury.ac.uk\/centre-for-sport-physical-education-and-activity-research\/?p=582"},"modified":"2026-01-27T11:18:19","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T11:18:19","slug":"skills-2-play-sport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/research.canterbury.ac.uk\/centre-for-sport-physical-education-and-activity-research\/skills-2-play-sport\/","title":{"rendered":"Skills2Play\/Sport"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This project evaluated Youth Sports Trust\u2019s Skills2Play\/Sport Programme which aimed to increase the physical literacy of primary school children and enhance teachers\u2019 competence and confidence in delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Skills2Play and Skills2PlaySport are complementary initiatives designed to support the 2014 Primary School Literacy Framework developed by the Youth Sport Trust. Skills2Play is targeted at Key Stage 1 and focuses on generic skill development through a range of activities that focus on stability, object control and locomotion. Contracted in 2013,&nbsp;<em>spear<\/em>&nbsp;evaluated the pilot Skills2Play\/Sport programme followed by successive evaluations of the nationally rolled out programme in 2014\/15 and 2015\/16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key Findings<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Since taking part in Skills2Play\/Sport\u2026\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>100% of KS1 deliverers report increased movement skills and confidence<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>87% of KS1 deliverers say Skills2Play has helped children achieve 60 active minutes a day<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participants at school visits exhibited increased confidence, motivation, knowledge and understanding.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Young leadership opportunities enhance leadership skills and participant engagement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div
