{"id":421,"date":"2017-07-12T12:42:33","date_gmt":"2017-07-12T11:42:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.canterbury.ac.uk\/centre-for-sport-physical-education-and-activity-research\/?p=421"},"modified":"2026-01-27T11:18:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T11:18:08","slug":"active-kids-paralympic-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/research.canterbury.ac.uk\/centre-for-sport-physical-education-and-activity-research\/active-kids-paralympic-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"Active Kids Paralympic Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This project assessed the impact of Active Kids Paralympic Challenge on engaging and educating young people through activities and resources aimed to capture the imagination and inspire participation in the active celebration of Rio 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>spear&nbsp;<\/em>evaluated the impact of the programme on awareness of equality and disability inclusivity and enhancing equality of opportunity and participation. The evaluation included analysis of qualitative and quantitative data collected from bespoke young people and deliverer surveys, school visits and telephone interviews. Outputs include counterfactual analysis and multi-media tracking case studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Key Findings:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Of the almost 1.5 million young people who participated in 2015\/16, over two-thirds say they know more about Paralympic sports they can play<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>69% of participants said they know more about Paralympic sports they can play and 63% said they play more sport than before<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The programme strengthened school and community partnerships through festivals and Paralympic-themed events<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Teachers reported that pupils are now more aware and accommodating of the opportunities disabled people need and the role they can play in enabling these opportunities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Active Kids Paralympic Challenge was widely perceived by schools to have supported meaningful engagement with Paralympic
